Jackie's Fifth Amendment
Location: Fifth Ave. at 7th Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn
Style: Dive
Specialties: Bucket of 6 splits for 9 bucks. Try the Miller High Life. It's delicious.
Jukebox: Recently changed to digital. A sad day for all.
Jackie's Fifth is easily my favorite bar in Brooklyn. Julie doesn't like it because they only have cheap beer, but I dig that kind of thing. The ladies behind the bar are nice and since they don't have to refill the buckets too often, they can take lots of smoke breaks. It's the kind of real, honest-to-goodness dive bar that Henry Chinaski would be inclined to frequent.
If you're afraid of getting your sleeves wet on the bar or having to twist off your own cap on a 7oz. bottle of miller, this bar is not for you. Likewise, if you go to a bar to do anything other than sit and drink, and maybe listen to some jukebox music, find another place to go. Jackie's is a place for the Bukowskis of NYC to sit alone at the bar and philosophize to themselves without being bothered by people who worry about what they look like, what they're drinking, or where they're going later. Stop by and have a bucket if you're inclined, but please don't ruin it. It's the best bar ever.
